Oak Creek Canyon and Slide Rock State Park

My Subaruing adventure this weekend took me to scenic Oak Creek Canyon and one of Arizona’s most scenic state parks, Slide Rock.

Oak Creek Canyon lies between Flagstaff and Sedona, AZ. The best route to explore this canyon is by traveling south on Highway 89A. The entire route is a scenic drive and heading south affords you with a head-on view of this spectacular river gorge.

The best vistas are from the aptly named Oak Creek Canyon Vista. It’s the first stop heading South on 89A. From there, the road takes a dive into the river gorge and travels along Oak Creek. There are areas to stop and take in more scenic vistas and just before reaching picturesque Sedona lies Slide Rock State Park. This park offers relaxing and easy hikes, and great swimming. There’s a eighty foot natural water slide in the park as well. There’s also plenty of camping in the area as well so if you’re into that sort of thing (and what kind of subaru-owning, nature loving person doesn’t?), be sure to check out the camping options by visiting the Coconino National Forest’s website by clicking here.
