Camping in Joshua Tree National Park, California

Although I’m not completely sold on the desert, I am sold on Joshua Tree National Park (and California in general, but that’s another blog to come).
I decided that before I wrap up my adventures exploring the desert southwest for a while, I had to get back to JTNP and do some camping. I found a weekend that I’d be close by and made it happen.

Camping here was EPIC! Although it was indeed hot (highs peaked into the 100’s and overnight lows only mid-80’s), it was also very quiet. It felt as if I had this vast desert wonderland to myself.  I explored quite a bit and did some hiking. Ryan Mountain and Pinto trail were two on my list. I also explored the Keys View area. I camped in Cottonwood Springs part of the park. This is closest to the I-10 and just about 30 miles from Palm Springs and the Salton Sea.

If you’re an adventure-seeking explorer like myself, you simply must put Joshua Tree NP on your short list and get out here. You’ll love it even more if you’re a peak-bagger, love bouldering or rock climbing. This park has it all, including the famous slow-growing Joshua Tree. Over in the Key’s View area, you’ll pass through an EPIC old-growth Joshua Tree forest that’s part of the Mojave Desert.
